We love Peggy Carter. We adored her in Captain America: The First Avenger. We love everything about her, from her 40s red lipstick to her takes-no-bullshit attitude to her bravery. We freaking love Peggy Carter.
The Agent Carter one shot short film that was released with Iron Man 3‘s blu-ray was awesome. We got Peggy trying to do what she does best in a post-war world that doesn’t see any use for women anymore now that the boys are back home. I cheered, cheered when she got to rub her awesomeness in that sexist jerk’s face at the end, and I immediately wanted more more more Peggy Carter.
Apparently the gods of television heard my cries, because ABC has greenlit Agent Carter as a television series! Starring Hayley Atwell, it’s going to be a midseason series bridging the gap between the fall and spring runs of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., so it looks like it’s going to be a shorter season than the usual 22 episodes on American TV.
Here’s the official synopsis:
It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers.
It kind of sounds like they’re starting it before the One Shot, or they’re pretending the plotty part of that never happened, but I’m hoping we’ll actually get Peggy as the first director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I really don’t want to see her taking orders from Howard Stark but rather working alongside him to put S.H.I.E.L.D. together.
But it looks like the show’s going to be run by two women, so I have high hopes. Don’t let us down, Marvel! Give Peggy the series she deserves!
