Fangirl Weekly: Feb 28 – March 6
It’s time for Fangirl Weekly? Your orders, Captain?

Last Week on TDF
Monday, February 28
Lady T reviewed Paul, starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost
Excerpt: Spotting the references to Star Wars, Star Trek, Close Encounters, Aliens, Back To The Future, Cocoon, Indiana Jones and innumerable other staples will probably make a pretty spectacular drinking game (there’s an increasingly comprehensive and spoiler-filled list of them at the IMDb boards here) but I’m not sure if it entirely makes up for the fact that it is ultimately all rather disposable. Fun, certainly, and funny without a doubt so long as you can tell your Ewok from your elbow, but in the end you’re not going to miss a lot if you choose to wait for the DVD. /em>
TDF Pamela posted a daily dose of awesome: Matchstick Minas Tirith
Excerpt: Not only does this warm my LOTR fangirl heart, it also makes me feel like I’m squandering away my life. This dude? Built Minas Tirith out of matchsticks. What did I do today? Broke the caption styling on my blog. Way to go, fangirl.

Guest blogger Tracy Falbe explains why Uhura is a fangirl favorite
Excerpt: Star Trek: the Original Series is famous for its parade of hotties who added beauty and intrigue to many episodes. But Lieutenant Uhura, originally played by Nichelle Nichols, meant the most to me. Competent, professional, beautiful, Uhura was a bridge officer who sometimes jumped in to take the helm in a pinch. Of course the poor woman still had to answer the phone, and I wondered why I could see her knickers, but at least she was spared the humiliation of fetching the Captain coffee.
TDF Pamela reviewed Iron Crowned (Dark Swan Book 3) by Richelle Mead
Excerpt: Reading this review so far, you might think that I didn’t like the book. I did, really, even though it stressed me the hell out. I still think the world is fascinating and the overarching story is pretty cool. I just want Eugenie to grow as a character, to get stronger through all of these crappy experiences, and at the end of Iron Crowned, I felt like she took a couple of steps back instead of moving forward. I’m still hooked on the series, but I’m ready for this badass shaman/fairy queen to stiffen her spine and start taking charge.
Wednesday, March 2
TDF Pamela posted about two DNF books
Excerpt: I really wanted to like Lust by Charlotte Featherstone and Torn by K.D. King, but sadly I just couldn’t get into either book. I explain why these two were Did Not Finish books for me.
WereGeek recapped and reviewed Being Human (US) s01e07 “I See Your True Colors…And That’s Why I Hate You”
Excerpt: Interestingly enough, in a weird sort of synchronicity (or maybe not), the episode of the British version of Being Human that aired Sunday in the UK featured George going home to see his parents. Now that’s a hell of a coincidence in anyone’s book. Think they’re sharing secrets and plot spoilers across the pond? I sure do. But that just makes things all the more exciting for me! How long before we see US plots showing up in the UK show? I’m guessing about four weeks. [tongue firmly in cheek]

Amanda recapped and reviewed Supernatural s06e16 “And Then There Were None”
Excerpt: Beware spoilers!
Sunday, March 6
LamoreVincera posted Path through Doctor Who, season 4
Excerpt: I will warn you all: this season is a heartbreaker. Why? You’ll find out. And when you do, you will curse your television, cry buckets and possibly reach for the largest bottle of booze you have handy. And now that I’ve made everyone sad… Let’s do this thing.
WereGeek recapped and reviewed Being Human (UK) s03e03 “Type 4″
Excerpt: So we learned last season from CenSSA (that’s the technical side of the Kemp/Jaggat crew who were running the pressure chamber experiments on werewolves) that vampires are “type 1″, ghosts are “type 2″ and werewolves are “type 3″. So what’s left? What could be the “type 4″ of the title? More importantly, did CenSSA classify them as “type 4″ or is that just a fun way of saying “this is something you’ve never seen in the Being Human universe before”? Well, since CenSSA is (presumably) defunct, I guess it’s probably the latter.
Fangirl News
- We’re looking for a few new contributors! We already dabble in comic books and video games, but none of us read comics regularly anymore and just don’t have a lot of time for video game playing. If you would like to contribute regular comic book reviews (any and all titles/companies are needed) and/or reviews of current as well as older video games, send me an email at t.d.fangirl @ gmail.com with your reviewing interests and any previous blogging or reviewing experience you have.
Keep your eyes peeled for more reviews and geeky news this week, and thanks for fangirling with us!
