Lionhead Studios is back with another download pack of download content for those Fable III players looking to dive back into the adventure of exploring Albion.
For 560 Microsoft Points ($7 U.S.), Fable III fans can download Traitor’s Keep, which provides players with a four-part main quest, a handful of side-quests, new outfits to collect, and more achievements to unlock.
The story is as such: your monarch, the ruler of Albion, is quite bored with all of the politics involved in ruling the kingdom. Thankfully, such monotony is broken up by an assassination attempt. After the failed regicide, a ship shows up with some intimidating-looking soldiers; the leader introduces himself as Commander Milton, the warden of Ravenscar Keep, a secret prison that your brother — and former king — Logan used to imprison not only the most dangerous criminals in Albion, but political prisoners as well. General Turner, one of said prisoners, is behind the assassination, so you gladly board Milton’s ship and head off to Ravenscar Keep to stretch your fighting muscles and have an adventure or two.
Without getting into anything too spoiler-filled, the story involves quelling a prison riot and finding three extremely dangerous prisoners that have escaped. There’s even a little bit of a surprise twist at the end. After the main story is over, there are a few extra quests that you can complete for additional achievements.
Many people have complained about how short the DLC for the Fable games can be, but Lionhead has really outdone themselves this time, proving that quality does, indeed, trump quantity. First of all, the battles in Traitor’s Keep are a lot more tough than what we’ve previously seen. I actually never died once during my run-through of Fable III, but I died perhaps 3-4 times during various battles in the Traitor’s Keep storyline. There’s definitely a lot more challenge within this new content.
As mentioned, there are also four new outfits that you can add to your wardrobe. The first is a prisoner outfit in everyone’s favorite black and white stripes, complete with leg shackles. Wearing this outfit in front of the Demon Door on Ravenscar Keep opens the door, and inside is another outfit, a Ravenscar Keep prison guard outfit. There is also a Sand Fury outfit; if you remember from the original game, the Sand Furies are those masked crazy women that you got to fight in the desert outside of Aurora. Lastly, you can also gather a prostitute outfit, which boasts a red corset with pasties, thigh-high stockings, boots and gloves. As someone who loves the ability to play dress-up in the game, mixing and matching pieces from different outfits to create my own, all of these outfits were must-haves.
Overall, I was very happy with this download content. I love Fable III and was glad to have an opportunity to step into Albion once again and fight for her survival as her queen.
