It’s an episode of carnal indulgence this week: Aidan indulging in live human blood, Sally in live human sex and Nora…well, we’ll come to that.
I’m trying something a little different this week. Rather than giving my usual blow by blow, I’m going to attempt to be more concise. Let me know if you prefer short(er) and sweet or maximum verbosity, will you?
The following contains spoilers for season 2, episode 5 of Syfy’s Being Human: “Addicted To Love”. You have been warned.
Aidan and Suren are falling back into their old habits and each other’s arms. That’s good for them, but bad for the vampires of Boston. At least Mother thinks so, because she made a personal visit to remind them both what they should be doing instead of gorging themselves and canoodling. There’s still the matter of Bishop’s orphans, who have gone to ground and are still causing problems and threatening to reveal the existence of vampires to the greater world.
Sally has become addicted to the pleasures of the flesh and repeatedly possesses Dr. Forest’s girlfriend, Janet. Every time she quits Janet, she gets worse and worse hangover/withdrawal symptoms to the point where even the boys notice she looks about as gray as her sweater. Even though she promises them she won’t do it again, she does. And gets stuck.
Josh is making plans to run tests to see if he can minimize the pain of the change as a first step toward a cure. Connor and Brynn have bankrolled his experiments and Nora has finally met them, but is very adversarial. In reality, she’s angry because she’s recently been stalking her ex-boyfriend. The one who landed her in the hospital with that lovely scar that carries over to her wolf form.
In flashbacks, we can see how Henry, despite winning Suren’s affections and protection last episode, is chafing under the royals and Aidan’s staunch support of them. Henry is philandering and hopes to keep it a secret from Suren. He’s successful until Suren walks in on him schtupping a human woman upstairs at a Boston society party. Suren is already emotionally compromised because Mother has told her it’s time to move on from Boston but Suren wants to stay because of Henry. When she sees him and the human woman upstairs, she loses control. She attacks the woman in full view of a ballroom of high society human guests, blowing the vampires’ cover. In order to control the situation, Mother orders the room locked and all vampires present to kill every human. She then orders Suren “grounded”, a.k.a. buried in the ground until she’s learned her lesson. This is the scene of slaughter we’ve seen flashbacks to in the first four episodes of season two.

Stuck in Janet’s body, Sally goes to the hospital to get Josh’s help. Dr. Forest sees her there and reminds her she’s meeting his mother today and walks her back to the apartment. There, Sally sees the black smoke monster who rushes through her, knocking her against the wall and popping her out of Janet, who is left disoriented and evidently with some of Sally’s memories. Janet finds her way to the trio’s house and recognizes things there, including the spot where Sally died. She is also frantically drawing the shadowy figure over and over and names it “Reaper”. Sally tries to put things right, but since Janet can’t see or hear her, there’s little Sally can do for the stricken woman.
Will, Nora’s ex, comes to meet her at the hospital. He apologizes for what he did and Josh walks in. She introduces them. Josh takes her outside and angrily insists that she doesn’t let him near her. The twins agree with Josh – Will hurt one of their own and he should pay. Connor convinces Josh to attack Will at his worksite. Josh viciously beats Will as Connor looks on, until Nora shows up and orders Josh away. Josh then obsesses about his violent episode at home. At the hospital, Nora tells Josh Will will be fine and won’t press charges. She also tells him that after she got out of the hospital, she left her friends and everything she owned behind her so she wouldn’t have to see Will again.

Aidan admits to Suren that he knows where the orphans might be hiding. He takes her back to the funeral parlor and they see evidence that vampires have been there recently, but they’re gone. Suren goes off to a different part of the building and Henry steps out of the shadows. He feels a kinship with the orphans since he’s an orphan too, and he’s been helping them survive. Their reunion is short-lived however, as Aidan is overwhelmed with emotion on seeing him, but Henry is frosty. Aidan knows Suren mustn’t know he’s there, so when she comes back, he doesn’t mention Henry and they leave in search of more orphans.
The twins have been working on Nora throughout the episode. Connor at the hospital, pinpointing Nora’s fear of Josh finding a cure and making her take it – tapping into feelings Nora probably doesn’t even realize she has. Then Brynn stops her as she leaves the hospital before the moon rises and tells her how bad she feels for Nora, who came into this without knowing anything while they had the advantage of generations of werewolf insight and acceptance. Nora questions whether her recent stalking behavior is her wolf and why she’s been counting the days until the full moon. Brynn says her wolf wants to run free so Nora and her wolf can become one. She and the twins change and kill Will as a pack. Nora wakes the next morning as the filling in a naked twin sandwich. She sees them sleeping on either side of her and she smiles.

I feel like things are finally moving forward on all three story threads this week. If not moving forward much, we at least have the context of Suren’s bloodbath we’ve been seeing since the beginning of the season. And we see that Henry’s still alive, and obviously still a player, though now he’s helping the orphans get by – and he’s probably the one organizing them. I can’t wait to see the eventual Aidan vs. Henry showdown and see whether 80 years on the mean streets of Boston have matured him.
I really feel sorry for Janet and the mind-whammy Sally’s placed on her by practically taking up residence. Where is Zoe when we need her? Maybe she’ll show back up soon to act as a translator so Sally can fully apologize for sending Janet on a one-way trip from powerful executive to the looney bin. The fact that the black smoke monster (okay, fine. Reaper.) physically moved Janet’s body and forced Sally out, but then left Sally alone makes me wonder what it is after all. If it were really there to hurt her or drag her back, wouldn’t it have used her extremely weakened state when she was forcibly ejected to take her? Perhaps there’s some other motive at work. Color me intrigued.
And speaking of other motives, how about how the twins have been working on Josh and Nora? They’re clearly trying to get the two “mutts” to embrace their feral side with varying degrees of interest and success. I think they’ve fully got their claws into Nora now (no pun intended) but I don’t think they really want to convert Josh. If he fully embraces his wolf, chances are he’ll stop looking for the on/off switch that would allow the twins to fully embrace their wolves full-time. But the question is, now that Nora has embraced her wolf, how will that affect her relationship with Josh? Will she still be able to hold down a job? Will she experience any remorse longer than it takes to get those last bits of Will out of her teeth? Okay, that’s several questions, but I want to know! And, quite honestly, I could pass up the Aidan plot completely if it meant more Nora!
