I’ve been in a book slump for… jeez, several years now. I used to read a hundred books a year, but after I finished grad school, that tapered off to under twenty in a year, sometimes less. I just couldn’t find anything that caught my attention enough to make me want to read it. (I’m guessing part of the reason for the slump was grad school; I enjoyed it, but so. much. reading.)
So far in 2016? I’ve already read twelve books, and I’ve got a bunch lined up that I’m just dying to stick my nose in.
So what changed? Well… I got pregnant.
(I guess you can consider this my blog announcement post, too. Surprise!)
To make a long story short, it was a long, stressful journey we went on in order to get me knocked up, and that must’ve triggered something in my brain that put me back into reading mode. I always did love to read as a mental escape, so maybe it was the stress levels. Or maybe it’s been the overwhelming first trimester fatigue that’s left me too damned tired to do anything other than drag my thumb across the screen on my Kindle app.
Whatever the reason, I seem to have broken that multi-year reading slump, and hopefully I can keep it up. My TBR pile has grown to astronomical proportions. It’s time to make a dent in it.
