Four years ago, I think most people would’ve been like “Richard who?” or thought he was Hugh Jackman’s angrier brother or something. But Richard Armitage is definitely more recognizable now, even if you have to say, “He’s Thorin, the hot dwarf king from The Hobbit.”

My friend gasped and fanned herself when she made the connection.
But fellow fangirl Brittany and I first discovered Mr. Armitage about eight years ago, when another friend had us watch North and South. No, not the one with Patrick Swayze, the BBC miniseries based on a novel by Elizabeth Gaskell. Richard plays Mr. Thornton, our deliciously brooding hero.
He also looks amazing sans cravat.
He’s also appeared in several British television series, such as MI-5/Spooks, Strike Back, and Robin Hood, where his hair followed the same progression as Zuko’s in “The Ember Island Players.” (if you nodded your head and totally understood what I meant by that, let me hug you and let’s watch Avatar: The Last Airbender together.)
He’s shirtless a lot in MI-5, which is a fucking delight, let me tell you.
He also starred in The Crucible at The Old Vic in London. He’s so beardy and shirtless. Le sigh.
But now let’s get down to the serious business you expect from Man Candy Monday: the ogling.
And finally, we leave you with Richard reading love poetry.
